Online safety encompasses the use of new technologies, the internet and electronic communications such as mobile phones, collaboration tools and personal publishing. It highlights the need to educate pupils about both the benefits and the risks of using technology, while providing the safeguards, systems and awareness necessary for users to manage and control their online experiences confidently and safely. At St. John’s CE Primary Academy, we recognise that safeguarding children applies equally to the digital world. As outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education, online safety is a key part of safeguarding and requires a whole-school approach.

These days, many social media apps set age restrictions to help keep children safe online. By limiting access to those who are old enough to understand privacy settings, cyber‑bullying and inappropriate content, we protect young learners and teach them responsible digital behaviour. Our school fully supports these age limits as part of our commitment to a safe and supportive online environment for every pupil.
